Preparing for Your EMDR Intensive
Customized EMDR workbooks are reserved for clients choosing EMDR Therapy Intensives at Sea Glass Counseling and Consultation. Most clients find that their workbook adds significant value to their experience and enhances the work they do in their EMDR Intensive.
Make use of your Intensive EMDR Workbook
I create a custom workbook for each of my Intensive EMDR clients - designed just for you and your goals. Your workbook will be sent to you prior to your session, and you’ll have at least 1 week to complete it. Send your completed workbook back to your EMDR therapist for their review. We’ll use this as a guide to create an even more personalized EMDR Intensive experience for you and accelerate your EMDR therapy treatment.
Your EMDR Therapy Intensive workbook allows you to:
connect with your EMDR therapist prior to us working together
accelerate faster through earlier phases of EMDR Therapy, giving you more space and time to get to reprocessing phases during your EMDR Intensive sessions
have something tangible to bring with you to future therapy sessions after our work together is completed
have a memento of the hard work you’ve put into your own emotional healing and wellbeing
Clear your schedule
Show up rested and substance-free for all of the intensive days, as it may be very draining. While some clients feel refreshed after EMDR, many feel tired, spacy and find it hard to focus. Plan clear space in your schedule to rest, have down time, and take naps as needed. Do not schedule important work meetings or other commitments during this time. Your brain will need space to process.
Listen to your body
I encourage all of my clients to use our sessions to practice listening to your body and honoring its needs - without judgement of yourself for having those needs. The week of your intensive, prioritize getting rest and sleep, and eating meals that are nourishing and enjoyable. We’ll take breaks throughout the Intensive sessions, but additional movement and stretching as needed during your downtime will be helpful. Consider scheduling a limited number of trauma-informed, light bodywork practices after your intensive to support continued mind-body connection, reprocessing, and rest.
Lean into your support system
Connection is so important to healing. Let a safe person in your life know that you’ll be participating in an EMDR intensive. Have a trusted friend or family member be available by phone or text should you need to talk throughout your intensive experience, grab dinner, or share a few laughs.
